Biography

The birth of Panopticum dates back to the summer of 1997, when Tim Coulembier (guitar, vocals), Bjorn Dekock (drums) and Christophe Patyn (bass) decided to start a prog-rockband, based on the music/vision of bands like Rush, Dream Theater, Shadow Gallery and Zappa.

After a couple of shows they realised a trio wasn’t enough to reach that goal, so the search for the right musicians began. Mattie Archie (guitar) joined Panopticum in ’99 and Isaac Delahaye (vocals) helped them out in 2000, because combining the odd rhythmical guitarlines and the vocal parts wasn’t the most easy job for Tim. With the quintet Panopticum recorded “Rights of the Firstborn”, an 8 song CDemo.

One year later Isaac decided to leave the band to concentrate on his studies at the Conservatory of Rotterdam, but almost instantly Dieter Cailliau (synth) showed up. At this point Panopticum took a fresh start by making new songs and re-harmonise the older stuff, with an almost complete line-up to be able to play the music they like.

Sadly, Christophe couldn’t combine Panopticum with his job any longer, so he left at the end of 2001. Olivier Vanbetsbrugge helped them out for a couple of shows, but had to leave too. As Panopticum already gave up the idea of finding the right singer and was heading for the studio to record their second CDemo “Reflection” at the end of 2003, they got in touch with Shari Platteeuw (vocals).

Right now, Panopticum already did a couple of shows to introduce “Reflection”. And at last they have a complete line-up, as Isaac once again joined them to replace Tim on guitar. Tim now plays bass.
